It's time to embrace your power and learn how to thrive in your 40's and beyond... truthfully, even if you aren't in your 40's yet, this blog is still for you!

I finally made the big 4 - 0! For some women, 40 is a milestone met with whispers of being "over the hill" or a gloomy sense of reaching "the end of the line." But for me, I'm using my 40's as a vibrant, powerful declaration of stepping into my best decade yet! This isn't about desperately clinging to my youth; it's about stepping into my prime with confidence, wisdom and an authentic sense of self.

So, how do you make your 40's not just "better," but your best? Here's a few things I've decided to start incorporating into my lifestyle and routine...

1. Reclaim Your Health, Inside and Out

This is the decade to becoming your own health advocate. Hormonal shifts are real, and understanding your body is key!

  • Listen to Your Body: How are you feeling? Are you fatigued, going through mood swings, or noticing changes in your skin and hair? Don't dismiss those things. Talk to a doctor to get to the root of any issues you may be experiencing. The sooner, the better!

  • Prioritize Movement: Forget about brutal work outs that leave you tired, and sore. Find physical activities that bring you joy. Some of my favorites include hiking, swimming, yoga, and strength training. Keep in mind that consistency beats intensity!

  • Heal from Within: Focus on your nutrition. Eat more whole, unprocessed foods and drink water like it's going out of style! Staying hydrated contributes to clear skin, healthy hair, nails and teeth, and even weight loss. Consider adding supplements that support women's health like Multivitamins for overall health, pro/pre-biotics for gut health and biotin for healthy hair and nails. • Use sleep as your superpower: Don't cheat yourself on sleep. It impacts everything from your mood and energy to your metabolism and daily functions. Create a nice, cozy bedtime routine and practice healthy sleep habits like sleeping in a cool, dark room, putting your phone on DND, and logging out of social media after a certain time. 2. Sharpen Your Mind & Keep Learning

Our brains are muscles, and our 40's are a great time to keep them strong and engaged.

  • Embrace Lifelong Learning: Take that class, learn a new language, pick up a new skill. We're never too old to learn new things.

  • Read a new book: Immerse yourself in books, articles, and new perspectives. Being informed never goes out of style. Challenge your brain to find new ways to stay engaged and relevant.

  • Challenge Yourself: Step outside of your comfort zone. Try a new hobby that requires focus, and your undivided attention. Enroll in an online college course to learn coding or a new language. Even if you don't think you'll ever use it, it'll keep your brain active!

  • Practice Mindfulness: Find ways to combat stress. Improve your focus with meditation. Activities like mindful breathing, walking in fresh air, even singing and dancing help us stay young at heart and lead vibrant lives.

3. Nurture Your Relationships (and Yourself)

Your connections are your net worth. At this age, having meaningful connections is about more than just hanging out on the weekends or special occasions. It's about nourishing our souls with happiness, honesty and warmth.

  • Invest in Key Relationships: Prioritize time with your loved ones, your partner, your children, and close friends. Practice being present and engaged.

  • Reshape Your Social Circle: It's ok to let go of relationships that no longer serve you. Relationships that drain your energy, change your mood or aren't promoting growth have to go at this age! It's no longer about who you've known the longest, these days we're choosing quality over quantity.

  • Date Yourself: Schedule regular "Me Time." It doesn't have to extravagant or expensive. It can something as little as a solo walk at the park or the beach. A quiet coffee in a quaint coffee shop, a massage, a facial, or a relaxing bubble bath with a nice book. Find ways to reconnect with what makes you happy and full. • Set Boundaries: This is crucial. Learn how to say "NO" as a complete sentence. "No" to commitments that don't align with your priorities. "No" to things that overwhelm or frustrate you. "No" to people, places or things that drain your time and energy. Both are precious and you deserve to spend them the way you choose.

4. Become Financially Savvy

Being financially secure offers protection from the unknown, unexpected and provides peace of mind, freedom and options.

  • Review Your Finances: Take a good look at what you spend money on. Food, subscriptions, clothes and shoes. Are they necessary? Are they contributing to anything that'll help increase your value? If not, reinvest that money into things that will aid in providing a more secure future for you.

  • Plan for the Future: Think about long-term goals, not just the short ones. Goals like retirement, travel, or even a career change. We're no longer thinking or planning for next week or next month. We're planning for the next decade. What do you want your life to look like at 50, 60, even 70? Plan for that!

  • Educate yourself: If you don't know how to budget or invest your money, there are professionals out there who can help. Financial advisors and accountants are out there for the specific purpose of helping people manage their finances. Find one and don't be afraid to invest. You can't put a price on peace.

  • Build an Emergency Fund: Make sure you have safety net for those unexpected expenses. Things like car maintenance, hospital visits, getting sick and needing time off work are all unforeseeable emergencies that happen everyday. Set some funds aside to keep yourself prepared.

5. Define Your Purpose & Passion

Life at this stage is no longer about surviving, it's about thriving!

  • Reflect on Your Values: What really matters to you these days? Are your daily actions and choices aligned with those values? Are you operating in your authenticity? Are you living the life you envisioned for yourself in your 20's? If not, it's time for some reflection and redirection.

  • Reignite Old Passions: Remember that hobby you loved to do before life got in the way? Remember that goal you were working on before becoming discouraged? Pick them back up! There's no better time than now to reignite those old passions.

  • Explore New Interests: Allow yourself to discover new things. New joys, new talents, new happiness. Give yourself permission to be open to new people, new places and new experiences.

  • Embrace Your Authenticity: This is the decade where we lean into our true, authentic selves! Shed those old, unrealistic expectations of who you thought you should've been and become who you were always meant to be: YOU! Embrace those flaws, those failures, those setbacks. They all led you to who you are today, bigger and better! Your ability to be authentically yourself is your superpower. Embrace it, sis!

The Takeaway: Your 40's are a period of growth, self-discovery, and empowerment. It's a chance to build using the wisdom of your past and intentionally design the vibrant future you deserve. Let go of that negative "old" self talk and don't let anyone else convince you that you're too old to be new again. 40 is when we grab life by the horns and ride it til the wheels fall off! Hey sis, you're 40 now, get ready to shine brighter than ever and remember, life has just begun for the NEW you, it's time to let go of the OLD you!

What steps will you take to make your 40's your best decade yet?
