If there is one destination that truly has it all—from the spiritual to the cinematic—it’s Phuket. Since my initial visit in 2019 the island has evolved to offer even more diverse experiences.
Whether you're going for the "Instagrammable" wildlife or the iconic limestone cliffs, Phuket is a trip that rewards curiosity. If you ask any world traveler what their top 5 favorite trips were, I can almost guarantee you that Thailand will be on the list!
From the hospitality of the locals, to the beaches and activities the Island has to offer, Thailand should definitely be on your bucket list, and here's why!
Here are the four must-do experiences for your Phuket itinerary.
1. Cinematic History: James Bond Island
Known locally as Khao Phing Kan, this spot became world-famous after featuring in the 1974 film The Man with the Golden Gun.
The Scenery: You’ll see the iconic "nail island" (Ko Ta Pu), a massive limestone karst that juts out of the emerald water.
Pro Tip: Most tours include kayaking through hidden sea caves and a visit to Koh Panyee, a remarkable floating village built entirely on stilts by Indonesian fishermen.
Vibe: Grand, breathtaking, and essential for movie buffs.

2. A Spiritual Peak: The Big Buddha
Perched at the top of Nakkerd Hill, the 45-meter-tall white marble statue is one of Phuket's most revered landmarks.
The View: Beyond the statue itself, you get a 360-degree panoramic view of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon, and Chalong Bay.
Important Note: As of early 2026, some inner areas of the site are under maintenance following a landslide, but the statue remains accessible and the views are just as stunning.
Dress Code: This is a sacred site. Ensure your shoulders and knees are covered (sarongs are usually available for rent at the entrance).

3. Majestic Giants: The Elephant Experience
While "elephant trekking" (riding) was once the norm, the new travel experience is all about Ethical Sanctuaries.
The Modern Way: Instead of riding, visit a sanctuary like the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary or Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. Here, you can observe these rescued giants in their natural habitat, feed them, and even join them for a mud spa.
Why it’s better: It’s a hands-off, educational experience that focuses on the welfare of the animals, offering a far more meaningful connection than a traditional trek.

4. Close Encounters: Tiger Kingdom
For those who want a truly unique wildlife photo op, Tiger Kingdom allows you to get up close with these incredible big cats.
The Experience: You can choose to enter enclosures with tigers of various sizes—from the "smallest" (cubs) to the "giant" adults.
Safety Rule: Interactions are strictly supervised by professional trainers. Note that there are height and age restrictions for meeting the larger tigers (usually must be over 15 years old and 160cm tall).
The Atmosphere: It’s a well-organized facility where you can learn about tiger conservation while capturing a once-in-a-lifetime photo.

Trip Planning at a Glance
Activity | Best Time to Visit | Essential Tip |
James Bond Island | Early Morning | Book a "Sunrise" tour to beat the crowds. |
Big Buddha | Late Afternoon | Catch the sunset over the Andaman Sea. |
Elephant Sanctuary | Morning Session | Wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy! |
Tiger Kingdom | Weekdays | Go early to avoid long queues for specific tiger sizes. |
Final Travel Tip: The best way to get around Phuket is still by renting a scooter, but for these major attractions, booking a private van or a "City Tour" is often the most comfortable and cost-effective way to see everything in one day.
Bonus Tips: Make sure you get to the night market and try authentic Thai food. You can also shop 'til you drop since there's so much to see and do while there. It's definitely an experience worth having!
