Dreaming of your next getaway but dreading the usual travel hassles? What if I told you a few of the tricks I've used for years to make my journeys smoother, cheaper, and more enjoyable? Forget the basic tips you already know – these are MY secret travel hacks that will transform your next adventure.
I've been to 37 countries, on 5 continents all around the world. No, I'm not rich, I didn't have an inheritance, and I didn't win the lottery. I simple find ways to travel more for less. Here's how I do it...
Grab your notebooks!

1. The Incognito Window is Your Best Friend for Flights & Hotels
Ever noticed how flight and hotel prices seem to jump if you revisit a site? That's often because websites use cookies to track your interest and subtly increase prices to pressure you into booking. The Hack: Always search for flights and accommodations in an incognito or private browsing window. This prevents sites from seeing your past searches and keeps prices more consistent.
2. Befriend Google Flights (and its Explore Feature)
If you have flexibility with your destination, Google Flights is a powerhouse. But beyond just comparing prices for specific routes, use its "Explore" feature. Enter your departure airport and dates (or leave them open), and Google will show you destinations around the world and how much it costs to fly there. The Hack: Find amazing deals to places you might not have considered, opening up new travel possibilities you never knew existed!

3. Master the Art of the "Carry-On Only" Trip
Checking a bag can add significant cost, time at the airport, and the risk of lost luggage. For trips up to a week or even two, going carry-on only is a game-changer. The Hack: Learn strategic packing techniques like rolling clothes tightly or using packing cubes. Wear your bulkiest items (like boots or a jacket) on the plane. You'll be surprised how little you actually need!
4. Leverage Credit Card Perks Beyond Miles
Many travel credit cards offer more than just points or miles. Look into cards that provide benefits like travel insurance, car rental insurance, lounge access, or even concierge services. The Hack: Before you buy separate travel insurance or pay for lounge access, check your existing credit card benefits. You might already be covered!

5. Download Offline Maps & Language Packs
Getting lost or encountering a language barrier in a foreign country is stressful, especially if you don't have data or Wi-Fi. The Hack: Before you leave, download Google Maps for your destination to use offline. For language, download Google Translate's language packs so you can translate phrases even without an internet connection. This is a lifesaver for navigation and communication!
6. The "Hostel Private Room" Secret
Back when I traveled solo on a 30+ day European trip, I stayed at several hostels in many of the different countries I visited. I know, I know: "Hostels? UGH, no, thank you!" But hear me out, even if you aren't keen on dorm life, many hostels offer private rooms that are often significantly cheaper than comparable hotel rooms. The Hack: You get the social benefits and amenities of a hostel (kitchens, common areas, guided tours) without sacrificing your privacy and peace. It's just another way to save money on your trip. The app I used was called "Hostel World" found in your app store

7. Always Pack a Portable Power Bank
In our hyper-connected world, a dead phone can feel like a crisis. Whether it's for navigation, translation, snapping photos, or emergency calls, your phone is crucial. The Hack: A fully charged portable power bank is a non-negotiable. It ensures your devices stay alive, especially during long travel days, layovers, or when power outlets are scarce.
If you're ready to elevate your travel game, try incorporating these secret hacks into your next adventure and experience the joy of stress-free, smarter exploration.
Happy travels y'all!
